May Allen was born on the 3rd of October, 1888 to William Allen and Sarah Sheffield in Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois (1, 7, 8). At age 9 the family was living at 903 West State St (1).
On the 21st of March, 1914 May Allen married Robert Collins in Lake County, Indiana, just across the Illinois/Indiana Border up by Chicago (2). In 1917, he was drafted in World War I. His draft card has the couple as living at 1006 Kelburn in Rockford, as does the directory the following year (4, 5). During that time they had their first child, Roberta Collins ([3(#3)).
By 1920, they were living at 714 Chestnut in Rockford (3). By 1924, they had moved to 1019 Peach, Rockford (4). Sometime between 1926 (when they were recorded as married in the city directory (#4)) and 1930, the two divorced. By 1930 she was married to Henry C Delaney, and the two of them are raising Mary and Doris from her previous marriage with Robert. At this time, the family was living at North Court Street, Rockford (6).
Four years later she died on the 21st of November, 1934 (7, 8). She was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Rockford, Illinois.
